Lisbon To Obidos by Bus
Obidos is a delightful Portuguese town that makes for an enjoyable day trip from Lisbon. Obidos is situated 80km to the north of Lisbon and the small size of the town means that it can be easily explored in a single day. There is a regular and inexpensive bus service which connects Obidos to Lisbon and this guide will explain in detail how to travel from Lisbon to Obidos by bus.

The express bus service between Lisbon and Obidos is called the “Rapida Verde” (Green Express) and is operated by the Rodotejo bus company. The buses along this route are clean, modern and comfortable.
The bus journey takes one hour and there are 10 daily departures Monday to Friday but significantly less at the weekend. A single bus ticket from Lisbon to Obidos costs €7.10 (correct November 2015) and the ticket is purchased from the bus driver. There are no return tickets; for a day return, a single ticket must be purchased on both buses. Bus tickets cannot be pre-booked or seats reserved in advance, it is advisable to arrive early for popular summer time services, especially at the weekends. Those passengers who are traveling with heavy or bulky luggage can load the items into the compartments beneath the bus.
Lisbon and Obidos Bus Stops
The Obidos bus service departs from the Campo Grande bus station in Lisbon. This is located on the green and yellow metro lines and is served by the Campo Grande metro station. Campo Grande bus station has no central building and is a series of bus stands that surround the metro station. This means that the “Rapida Verde” bus stop can be difficult to find.

The “Rapida Verde” bus stand is to the east of the metro station, on the “Rua Actor Antonio Silva” street and the exact bus stand is marked by the Rapida Verde timetable. The final stop of the Rapida Verde route is the town of Caldas da Rainha and the bus may display a sign for Caldas da Rainha. Campo Grande bus station is in the shadow of the massive José Alvalade Stadium, the home of Sporting Lisbon football club.
In Obidos, the bus stops to the south of the town close to the tourist information office and the main car park. It is less than a 5-minute walk from the bus stop to the centre of Obidos. The bus route to Obidos follows the A8 express way and there is a single stop on the way in the town of Bomarral. The route is scenic as it passes through the hills north of Lisbon.

Car and train between Lisbon To Obidos
Lisbon is connected to Obidos by the A8 toll expressway, and the fastest way to travel to Obidos is by car. There is a large carpark to the south of Obidos, which is close to the aqueduct and the main bus stop. Inside the city walls there is no parking and access for motor vehicles is very limited.
There is a train station close to Obidos but the town is served by regional services, which means that all train journeys to Obidos are incredible slow. The infrequent direct train service from Lisbon to Obidos takes a staggering two hours, while the express bus takes just over an hour. If you wish to visit Obidos as a day trip always take the bus!
